I was extremely excited during my 11 hour flight from LAX to arrive in Germany. This was going to be my first attendance at the largest classic car show held in Europe. I wanted to understand and get an appreciation for the value of the classic Mercedes-Benz in Europe. This show was a delightful treat. The show cars were impeccable and the hosts of the show put out the red carpet and treated their guest with the up most hospitality.

At first when you arrive at the Convention center, it seems like a small gathering, until the itinerary is reviewed and you realize that there are thirteen showrooms with thousands of show cars displayed. The food vendors were spectacular!! How much better can it get than sitting in the midst of the most popular and sought after cars while drinking your German beer and eating a sausage stew.

The first day, I was exhausted from the plane ride so I just walked around the showroom in a daze admiring the vehicles displayed. They had beautiful women dressed up in 50′s and 60′s costumes, a grand pianist, and violinist were walking amongst the cars. The scene was as though I had walked into the set of an old Hollywood movie.

The next day, I woke up early in the morning. I was refreshed from my long flight the previous day. I took as many pictures as time would allow. I have created a photo album on Vintage Euro Parts’ Facebook page.

Over the years, Mercedes Benz has been putting out cars not only turning heads on the street, but also
on the silver screen. Hollywood has looked to the iconic brand to symbolize class and embody wealth
and refinement in its characters and on its sets.

Here are some memorable models from the 50′s and 60′s that made appearances on the big screen:

190 SL Roadster
This two-door, 4-speed manual convertible was produced between 1955 and 1963. It featured double
wishbone suspensions in the front and swing axles at the rear. It was used in the films High Society,
starring Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra, and Bing Crosby in 1956, and The Thrill of It All, starring Doris Day in
1963. It has been featured in many other films in each decade ever since.

300 SL Roadster/Gullwing
The faster, more expensive 300 SL Roadster was sold alongside the 190 SL Roadster. It’s most notable
features included it’s gull-wing doors, fuel-injection (a first for the public), and ridiculous speed. It was
seen great films such as 1964′s Viva Las Vegas, staring none other than Elvis. See YouTube clip below.

Elvis Presley – Scene from \”Viva Las Vegas\” (MGM 1964)

1964′s What a Way to Go, starring Shirley MacLaine and Paul Newman.

SL Pagoda
This classic beauty came in several models: the 230, 250, and 280. The 250 SL, which was in production
for just a year, had the sportier feel of the earlier models, but also had more agility thanks to a new
engine and rear disc brakes, as well as a larger fuel tank. And as a testament to quality assurance, each
engine in the 280 was bench-tested for two hours before being installed to ensure longevity. Models of
the “Pagoda” can be seen in 1965′s Die! Die! My Darling with Peter Vaughan and Donald Sutherland, and
1967′s Two for the Road starring Audrey Hepburn.

Are you Going?

Aug 18, 2012 12:00:00 AM By admin Events,

This blog is intended to keep my customers and fans of the classic Mercedes-Benz updates with my current restoration projects.

Here’s our current restoration project at Vintage Euro Parts:

I’m working on a 1969 280 sl w113 chassis. A friend of mine had the car and wanted to sell me the hard top, but after some negotiations I ended up purchasing the car. I bought the car without seeing it. I knew it was a rust bucket but was surprised when it showed up on the car carrier. The driver had me sign the dotted line and this rust bucket officially belonged to me.

I removed all the parts from the car and assessed the damage. I made a cart so that the car can sit on. Thanks to K&K MFG for the floor replacements and also with the purchase of some new OEM Mercedes panels I have started welding the body of this car back together.

Introduction to the Diamond Pattern Firewall Pad

The Diamond Pattern Firewall is made of a material that is specific for sound deadening and insulation. The product is GUARANTEED to reduce noise, heat, and vibrations that come through the engine compartment. In addition, the firewall pad is fire retardant. The Diamond Pattern Firewall is directly stamped with the exact original diamond pattern thus it is one piece and has an adhesive backing for an easy peel and stick.
The Diamond Pattern Firewall is a perfect color match to the original with a matte finish. The firewall in a car built in the 50’s or 60’s is now at least 50 years old and is dirty and dingy. When it was fresh off the assembly line, it was crisp, clean and sparkling.
Caveat Emperor- Mercedes-Benz discontinued the production of the firewall pad. Please contact Vintage Euro Parts for more information on how to restore your engine compartment with the Diamond Pattern Firewall pad.
A major concern when restoring your classic Mercedes-Benz should be finding a firewall pad that won’t cause long term damage to the body of the vehicle. When using felt or a jute backed products, unwanted moisture can easily cause early deterioration. Felt backing is sticky and becomes dry and brittle and begins to disintegrate after a couple years. If the material is not glued to each other directly it will eventually peel back from the underlying foam or felt backing.
I apologize to my customers that have mistakenly purchased the Pagoda Firewall Pad under the belief that it’s the Diamond Pattern Firewall Pad. Unfortunately, the launching of the Diamond Pattern Firewall Pad and the Pagoda Firewall Pad happened simultaneously and a lot of confusion has been made in regards to both of these aftermarket Mercedes-Benz Firewall Pads.
The Pagoda Firewall Pad that is being sold by a few members of the SL113 Group and the product was launched at the same time the Diamond Firewall pad was released. The Pagoda Firewall pad has several pieces and must be assembled with glue prior to assembly the Diamond Firewall pad is ready to install with an adhesive backing for easy peel and use.

Vintage Euro Parts has invested valuable time, effort, and skills creating a pad that our customer base has demanded. Our company has invested numerous hours and funds to research a product that will be superior to anything being offered on the Mercedes-Benz market.
Should you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at phone: (661) 702-0877; email: sales@vintageeuroparts.com.
Many Thanks,
